The competition called for the redesign of the City Hall’s back “parvis” under used and cluttered with an ad hoc outdoor city bus terminal. The proposal attempts to combine
a rather conventional competition program (parking, bus terminal and vegetation) with ideas of fragmentation and decentralization. Vehicular access is restricted and pedestrian use of the site is encouraged. Shops are allowed to spill onto the square, the bus terminal is consolidated and made more efficient, and key elements are added to the program including a stage, public washrooms and a ticket office for the Stratford Festival.
