GRAND FOYER CULTUREL DE LA PLACE DES ARTS

project: New entrance marquee and interior space for the Place des Arts
location: Montréal, Québec
architect: MSDL Architectes
year: 2008

The project for the Grand Foyer Culturel seeks to re-establish Place des Arts as the cultural and artistic heart of Montréal. Built over the last 45 years, the complex suffers from a weakened street presence and a cacophonic interior where a proliferation of materials and information renders the space meaningless and unmemorable. The project is structured on a continuuous unfolding plane integrating signage, multimedia and graphic identity. The plane marks a series of thresholds between interior and exterior, and foyer space and event space. The project is scheduled to open in 2010.

I personally headed and managed the design of the project during its conceptual design and design development phases. I was also responsible for all graphic and written presentations.
