project: Housing cooperative in Toronto's Kensington Market The design is inspired by impressions of the Kensington Market area of Toronto, a colourful, multiethnic and lively neighbourhood of downtown. During the 1970s, the neighbourhood resisted its planned destruction for the construction of the Spadina Avenue expressway and has since been associated as the "alternative" neighbourhood of the metropolis. The project inserts itself at the very centre of the area on a prominent site. Its façade is an articulated double skin which becomes animated when tenants move exterior and interior screens. |
